Obituary

JANET E. WRIGHTJanet Elizabeth (Brown) Wright, 85, of Walpole formerly of West Newton, died suddenly Sun Nov. 9, 2003 at Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood.Born in New York City she graduated from Bryant High School and received her BA in Biology from Hunter College in New York in 1938 and received her Masters from Columbia Teachers College. While at Hunter College she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She came to Cambridge and worked as a secretary to the Vice President of Arthur D. Little Co., and later worked as a freelance proofreader for Allyn & Bacon, Little, Brown, and Houghton – Mifflin publishing companies.Mrs. Wright was a member of and an unofficial greeter at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Newtonville, and was a member of the Society for the Preservation of English Language and Literature (SPELL). She is remembered by her family as a avid reader and completer of crossword puzzles and cross sticks, as well as someone who shared her opinion on current events by frequently writing to the editors of various publications. A grammar purist, she was known to have corrected some of William F. Buckley’s writings.She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Blakeslee D. Wright, her children David Frederick Wright of Falls Church VA, Ellen Gilbert of No. Attleboro, and Phyllis L. Anderson of Las Vegas NV.A memorial service will be held on Thurs. Nov 13, 2003 in St. John’s Episcopal Church 297 Lowell Ave. Newtonville at 11AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Memorial Fund 297 Lowell Ave. Newton, MA 02460. Arrangements were by Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home, Newton Corner.
