Obituary

Robert W. Spratt, 79, of Blackstone, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at his home. He was the husband of Helen L. (Haynes) Spratt who died in August of 2009.

Born in Worcester on August 4, 1930, he was a son of the late Robert G. and Salome (Fleming) Spratt. He was a resident of Blackstone for the past 14 years and formerly resided in Medway.

Mr. Spratt proudly served in the Marine Corps during both the Vietnam and Korean Wars and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He retired from the Marines after 20 years of active service and 12 years of the reserves.

Mr. Spratt worked in the receiving department at Kidde-Fenwal Inc. in Ashland for 23 years until his retirement in 1995.

He was an avid New England sports fan and enjoyed horseracing and trips to Saratoga Racecourse.

He is survived by two sons, Robert W. Spratt of Millville and Michael G. Spratt of Blackstone, three daughters, Nancy L. Spratt of Bellingham, Barbara L. Spratt of Milford and Linda M. Malmberg of Medway, a brother, Kenneth Spratt of Worcester, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was the grandfather of the late Ryan Malmberg and brother of the late Paul and Lee Spratt.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Wednesday, June 30 at 10 a.m. in the Ginley–Crowley Funeral Home 3 Barber St. in Medway. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in West Medway.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Disabled American Veterans, Room 546 State House, Boston, MA 02133-1042.
