Methuen, MA- Mary Paula (Brum) Bluemel, 88, passed away on June 23, 2010 at the Lawrence General Hospital shortly after being admitted. Mary was born on September 23, 1921 and was the oldest daughter of Anthony F. and Maria Jose (Pacheco) Brum.
Mary attended Methuen schools and graduated from Edward Searles High School in 1939. Mary also graduated from the Bryant MacIntosh School of Business. Mary was a lifelong resident of Methuen until two years ago, when she became a resident of Ashland Farms at North Andover.
Mary was a member of the WAVES during World War II as a specialist second class. She was stationed in Washington, DC as a cryptographer. She was discharged in October,1945. In July of that same year she married Robert W. Bluemel with whom she shared 34 years of marriage until his death in 1979.
Mary was employed by Raytheon of Andover for over 30 years in the microfilm division. After her retirement, Mary enjoyed activites through the Methuen Senior Center as well as traveling. She was also a longtime volunteer in the accounting department at the Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.
She is survived by a son, Robert A. Bluemel of Methuen, and a daughter, Judy Nigrelli and her husband Thomas J. of North Andover. Her grandchildren include Laurie (Nigrelli) Frucce and her husband Jonathan of Connecticut, Tracy Nigrelli of North Andover, Thomas R.C. Nigrelli and his wife Karen (Salvo) of Haverhill and Lacey A. Bluemel of Massachusetts, and is also survived by her great grandson, Oliver T. Frucce of Connecticut. She was predeceased by her brother Dr. Victor Brum, and sisters Leona Parolisi, and Edna Campbell.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the residents and staff of Ashland Farms at North Andover for the kindness and love that they showed to Mary.
ARRANGMENTS: Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 3-7 on Sunday, June 27th at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA. A Funeral Service will take place on Monday morning at 11:30 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen. There will be a memorial Mass in Mary’s honor celebrated at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to a charity of one’s choice.
