Belmont-----Albert Joseph Gilbert, 83, of 39 Hubble Road, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 23, 2010.
Mr. Gilbert was born August 5, 1926 in Northfield, the son of Alice (Cote) Gilbert and Joseph Gilbert.
Mr. Gilbert was a lifelong resident of the Lakes Region. He was employed as a mechanic, including owning his own garage, Al’s Used Parts, in Belmont, before retiring in 1988. He was very active in retirement with family, gardening and working with his bulldozer.
Mr. Gilbert served in the US Army as Motor Sgt. From 1944-46. He was a life time member of The American Legion Post 58 of Belmont and VFW Post 1670 of Laconia.
Survivors include four sons, Joseph A. Gilbert and his wife, JoAnne, of Gilmanton, Dennis G. Gilbert and his wife, Donna, of Chichester, Theodore “Ted” J. Gilbert and his wife, Valerie, of Belmont and Michael E. Gilbert of Belmont; two daughters, Deborah A. Gilbert of Laconia and Janice L. Hammond and her husband, Robert, of Belmont; grandchildren, Anthony Gilbert, Adam Gilbert and his wife, Anna, Dennis Gilbert, Christine Hinds and her husband, Dana, Sara Misiano and wife, Robyn, Julie Hammond, Michael Gilbert and his wife, Breanna, Jennie Nelson and her, husband, Randy, Melissa Tompkins and her husband, Randy, and Ryan Gilbert; great grandchildren, Hannah Gilbert, Lauren Nelson, Nathan and Anthony Tompkins, Lorraine Hinds, and Logan Gilbert; three sisters, Marie Cecile Wilson, Florence Gilbert and Madeline Marceau and several nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gilbert was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine Romprey Gilbert, in 2007 and by his brother, Edward Gilbert, in 1988.
A memorial calling hour will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2010 from 1 PM to 2 PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia.
A Remembrance will follow the calling hour at 2 PM also at the Funeral Home.
