Samuel Thurman Sinks, 90, Clarksville, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Skyline Medical Center, Nashville, TN. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel with Rev. Melvin Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Ryes Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday and from noon until the hour of the service Sunday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born January 17, 1920 in Montgomery County, son of the late Daniel Thomas Sinks and Zelma Reynolds Sinks. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Groves Sinks; two brothers, D.T. Sinks and Harold Ray Sinks. Mr. Sinks was retired from Civil Service and worked for the Montgomery County Sheriff Department for years and escorted many funerals. He was a member of Ryes Chapel United Methodist Church and the Layman's Club. He was a Mason and had served in the US Army. Survivors include daughter, Linda Ann Goetzka, Lexington, SC; brother, Jessie Sinks, Clarksville; four sisters, Susie Marie Sutton, Southside; Bessie Frances Russell, Cunningham; Erma Jo Eads, Clarksville; and Mary Lou Grimes, Southside; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and caregiver, Ann Groves. Pallbearers will be Randy Groves, Billy Batson, Benton Jackson, Bryant Jackson, Eddie Sinks, and Burney Wall. Honorary pallbearer will be Billy Smith, former Sheriff of Montgomery County.
