Acushnet – Ruth E. (Devine) Gilmore died June 15, 2010 at home in Acushnet in her 89th year. She was the widow of A.P. Stuart Gilmore and the daughter of the late William and Sarah J. (Haworth) Devine. She was born in New Bedford and lived in Acushnet for 69 years. She graduated from New Bedford High School in 1939 and St. Luke’s Hospital in 1942.
Mrs. Gilmore began her career as a Registered Nurse and retired from Old Colony Regional High School in 1985. She enjoyed church and Council on Aging activities. Ruth was a member of the Long Plain Methodist Church in Acushnet.
Survivors include her son: Robert S. Gilmore, Sr.; her grandson: Robert S. Gilmore, Jr. of Buzzards Bay; her younger brother: Dr. George R. Devine of Long Boat Key, FL; and three great-grandchildren: Adian P. Gilmore, Lukas P. Gilmore and Madison P. Gilmore. She was predeceased by her elder brother, William Devine, Jr., and her daughter, Marilyn R. (Gilmore) Campbell of Tuscon, AZ.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
