Laconia-----Leslie E. Hibbert, Jr., 92, of 175 Blueberry Lane and formerly of 97 Shore Drive, died at Genesis Eldercare-Laconia Center on Tuesday, June 15, 2010.
Mr. Hibbert was born May 31, 1918 in Wilmington, Delaware, the son of Effie R. (Eckman) and Leslie E. Hibbert, Sr. He attended the University of New Hampshire and served in the U. S. Navy where he was a Naval Flight Instructor.
Mr. Hibbert lived in Wilmington, Delaware for a few years before moving to Laconia seventy-five years ago. He was an industrial engineer and had been employed at Scott & Williams for thirty years and at Laconia Needle for ten years before retiring in the 1990’s.
Mr. Hibbert was a member of St. James Episcopal Church. He was a member of AOPA, the N.H. Historical Society, the U.N.H. Alumni Association and a member of Phi Mu Delta Fraternity. He was a Mason and a member of the Mount Lebanon Lodge No. 32 F. & A. M. for sixty-three years and served on the Laconia Planning Board. He was an avid pilot and was founder of the Lakes Region Flying Club and was a flight instructor for many years.
Mr. Hibbert is survived by his wife, Cecile “Sue” (Dorval) Hibbert, of Laconia; a daughter, Kathleen Hibbert, of Burlington, Vermont; two sons, David Hibbert of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Leslie Hibbert III of Ithaca, New York and eight grandchildren, Travis, Ethan, Sally, Holly, Karen, Keith, Melanie and Jenny. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hibbert was predeceased by a son, Daniel L. Hibbert, in 1992.
There will be no calling hours.
A Funeral Service will be held at the St. James Episcopal Church, 876 North Main Street, Laconia, N. H. on Monday, June 21, 2010 at Noon. Rev. William Romer, Interim Priest, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the family lot in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia, N. H.
