Gilford----Maxine (Houston) Donovan, 74, of 303 Old Lake Shore Road, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Tuesday, June 15, 2010.
Maxine was born November 29, 1935 in Haverhill, N.H., the daughter of Leo W. and Ida (Moulton) Fortier. She lived in Laconia for over thirty years before she moved to Gilford in 1996. She was the Tax Collector for the City of Laconia for twenty-four years before retiring December 19, 1997.
Maxine was a member of the N.H. Tax Collectors Association and served as President in 1989 and 1990. She was one of the graduates of the First State Certification Program for Tax Collectors in1992. She was a volunteer at the N.H. Humane Society and enjoyed sky diving and bungee jumping.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Donovan of Concord and Janine L. Bixby of North Haverhill; a son, Steven M. Donovan, of Gilford; five grandchildren, Jeremy, Patrick, Matthew, Tyler and Charles Bixby, all of New Hampshire and four great granddaughters. Maxine was predeceased by her mother and father, Leo W. and Ida M. Fortier, and by a son-in-law, Charles Bixby.
According to her wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service.
