Frederick “Fred” L. Maichle, of Plymouth and Truro, passed away surrounded by his loving family on June 16th at the age of 83. Fred was born in Boston and served in the US Army during WWII. He was an Industrial Arts teacher for over 20 years, teaching in New Hampshire, the Perkins School for the Blind, Plymouth and Scituate. He also hand turned drumsticks, made wood candle accessories and owned the Fred Maichle Furniture Refinishing and Restoring. After retiring, he taught chair caning at the Council on Aging in Plymouth. A member of the Christ Episcopal Church, he enjoyed gardening, reading, the beach, boating, golf and especially spending time with his family. Fred is survived by his beloved wife Shirley (Adams), his son Richard and his wife Cindy of Plymouth and his daughters Janice Sawyer and her husband Jonathan of Truro and Robin Freeman and her husband John of Killingworth, CT. He also leaves his sister Grace Wills of Norfolk, his 8 cherished grandchildren Kristen, Richard Jr. and Jamie Lynne Maichle; Christina Russell, Melissa and Jessica Sawyer and Ellery and Meghan Freeman and his great granddaughter Nora. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 23rd at the Christ Church, Court St, Plymouth at 2 PM. There are no visiting hours and burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations in his memory be made to the Jordan Hospital Cancer Center, 275 Sandwich St, Plymouth, MA 02360; Christ Episcopal Church, 149 Court St, Plymouth, MA 02360 or to St. Mary of the Harbor, 517 Commercial St, Provincetown, MA 02657.
