Obituary

Elizabeth Ware Watts Driscoll of Beacon Hill, Boston, retired educator, Boston
Globe writer and community volunteer died Monday, May 31st at the age of
91. She leaves her husband of 55 years, retired Globe writer Edgar Jr., her three children Edgar III of Boston, Elizabeth Conklin of Chester Springs, PA, Abigail Lee of Potsdam, NY, four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Born in Newton, Mass, daughter of Bessie Goulding and Albert Watt, she was predeceased by two sisters Marjorie Watts Sherman and Phyllis Watts Coons both writers for The Boston Globe.

Liz was an active volunteer throughout her life. She served on the MFA’s Ladies
Committee, Associated Day Care Services, Mass Eye and Ear Volunteer Committee, New England Aquarium, Beacon Hill Civic Association and the Board of the Nichols House Museum. She wrote a lively column for the old Beacon Hill News for many years. She a served as Coordinator of Volunteers for the Boston Athenaeum after retiring from teaching at the Dexter School, Brookline (1973-1990), The Carroll School in Lincoln and The Boston Globe.

Known as a loving mother and popular friend with an endearing wit and warm sense of humor, she advocated for children in the classroom and on the playing field. Her love of words, reading, music, and education continue to be an inspiration to all.

Liz died of heart failure after a battle with Alzheimer’s while living under
the loving care of her husband and son. A memorial service at King’s
Chapel, Boston, is being planned for a later date.
