HOUSTON, Texas -- Marcus A. Schlosser Jr., 31, of New Bedford, Mass., died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center after a long battle with leukemia and having gone through his second bone marrow transplant. He was the husband of Christine (Johnson) Schlosser.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of Marcus A. Schlosser Sr. and Donna (Ledvina) Schlosser of New Bedford. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School class of 1990 and was a member of the high school's Whaler Marching Band.
After graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. With a musical background, he became a member of the Commandant's Drum and Bugle Corps, stationed in Washington, D.C. He subsequently lived in Albany, Ga., and Livingston and only recently had returned to New Bedford.
As a youth, he was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, serving there as an altar boy.
While in the Marine Corps, he was the recipient of the Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Marksman Badge, the Certificate of Commendation and the Meritorious Mast, the Navy Achievement Medal. While in the service, he studied at the School of Music in Norfolk, Va.
Mr. Schlosser was proud of his heritage as a member of the Wampanoag Indian Tribe.
Survivors include his widow; his parents; a son, Matthew Raymond Schlosser of New Bedford; a sister, Beth Schlosser-Bennett and her husband, Lane, of New Bedford; a brother, Timothy Raymond Schlosser of San Diego, now serving a tour of duty in Iraq; his maternal grandparents, Raymond and Dolores (Motta) Schlosser of New Bedford; his paternal grandmother, Lois (Hopkins) Schlosser of New Bedford; a niece, Molly E. Schlosser; a nephew, Jacob Bennett; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday Nov. 10, 2003 in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, New Bedford. Burial will be in River-Side Cemetery, Fairhaven, Mass. Calling hours Sunday from 5 - 8 p.m.
