Obituary

Kathryn M.(Crossen) Amendolare, 90,of Halifax, died June 10. Wife of the late Ornofio Amendolare, loving mother of Joan Conway of Hernando, FL, Elaine Cravenho of Kingston, Karen Shea of Ft. Myers, FL, Leo Amendolare of Seattle, WA, Lucille Brogna of Duxbury, Lois Ford of Billings, MO, James Amendolare of Norwell, Lynne Nardella of Salem, Thomas Amendolare of Plymouth, & John Amendolare of Pembroke. Beloved by her 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Kay leaves behind a number of family and friends to cherish the amazing life she led.
Kay's lifelong accomplishments have been commendable. Born in 1919 to John and Mary (Doolan) Crossen, she was raised in the Mission Hill Section of Roxbury, MA and graduated from Mission High School in 1937. In August of 1941, she and "Nuff" married, and for the next 40 years they raised their 10 children in Dorchester, Milton, and Duxbury, after which she went on to further her own education earning an LPN from the Pondville Hospital School of Nursing, and later a Bachelors of Arts Degree in 1989, followed by a Masters Degree in 1993 from U Mass, Boston.
Kay's involvement in her faith has been truly inspiring. She served as a devoted, active parishoner and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Halifax.
Prompted by a love of scripture, Kay involved herself in Bible study groups which led to long standing, treasured friendships with others who shared her thirst for knowledge. Creative writing became an outlet for her as she produced poetry and short stories, inspired by her own life and family members. She spent her later years tracing the Crossen family's genealogy, an extensive search which uncovered relatives who spanned generations and continents.
Kay will be lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched for her commitment to her religion, family, and education. She serves as an example that age should never be a deterrent to attaining one's goals and that courage and strength can only exist when there is strong faith.
A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Halifax on Fri. June 18 at 9:00AM. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Kingston, where she will rest eternally alongside her late husband.
