Obituary

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Stanley Woodacre of Bradenton, formerly of New Bedford and Carver, Mass., died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Beverly Woodacre. He was the widower of Alice Billington Woodacre, to whom he had been married 45 years.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Richard and Margaret (Littler) Woodacre, he moved to Florida in 1994 and to Bradenton in 1997, where he married Beverly in December 1997.

He was a graduate of Brown University in Rhode Island, where he earned his bachelor of science degree in engineering.

Mr. Woodacre owned and operated R. Woodacre and Co. Plumbing and Heating. Later, he became a teacher of plumbing, science and related math at Southeast Regional Vocational and Technical High School in Easton, Mass.

He served in the Army during World War II in Company H of the 290th Infantry Regiment with the rank of gunnery sergeant.

He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher, vestryman and active member of the former 20/30 Club and Canterbury Club.

He was a leader for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and loved the outdoors, participating in mountain climbing, canoeing, golf and a number of other recreational activities.

Survivors include his widow; three daughters, Nancy Keith of Dartmouth, Mass., Lynn Grayson of Darlington, Ind., and Cindy Webb of Framingham, Mass.; two sons, Thomas Woodacre of Disputanta, Va., and David Woodacre of Westboro, Mass.; two stepsons, Dennis Barrett of Hudson Falls, N.Y., and Timothy Barrett of Fort Anne, N.Y.; a brother, Richard Woodacre III of Ocala; a sister, Dorothy Kelley of Fall River, Mass.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late Robert Woodacre and stepfather of the late Eileen Spiezie.

His memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday Nov. 8, 2003 in Grace Episcopal Church, County and School streets, New Bedford.

Arrangements are by the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford.
