Richard "Dick" Godfrey, of Shattigee Rd, Chester, passed away at home on June 5, 2010 after a brief illness. Dick was born in 1929 and grew up in Attica, NY. He was married for almost 60 years to his high-school sweetheart, Margery Searle, and they had four children. He owned and operated a fuel oil business, managed a supermarket, and drove a school bus in Attica. He loved gardening and being outdoors, and volunteered at the local Audubon Center. He and Marge moved to Chester, NH, in 1993. There he continued his passion for gardening, enjoyed watching bluebirds and swallows nesting in the boxes he built for them, and volunteered much of his time as the Coordinator for public access Channel #21 in Chester. He and Marge also enjoyed making maple syrup for their family for 45 yrs.
In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by two daughters, Sharon Mozzer of Tolland, CT, Holly Godfrey of Burlington, VT, two sons, Jon of Candia, David of Sharon, MA, five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
There are no calling hours. There will be a "celebration of life" for Dick on Sunday, June 27th, at 2pm in the Multi-purpose room at the Chester Town Offices."
