Charlotte F. Bankus, 92

Dateline: Norton, MA

Charlotte F. (Kava) Bankus, 92, of Norton formerly of South Burlington, Vermont passed away peacefully at home on Sunday June 6, 2010. She was the beloved wife of the late retired U.S. Army Colonel John T. Bankus who died in 1993. Mr. Bankus served as a former Treasurer for the State of Vermont and a former Vice President of Finance at Champlain College in Vermont.
Born in Billerica, MA on January 29, 1918 she was a daughter of the late Frank and Blanche (Szergowitz) Kava,
Charlotte grew up and was educated in Billerica and had also attended the Mansfield Beauty Academy in Boston.
A resident of Norton for the past 8 years, she had formerly made her home in South Burlington, Vermont for 40 years.
As the wife of an Army Colonel, Charlotte traveled throughout the world and lived in many places including Germany, Japan and in Pearl Harbor at the beginning of WWII.
Mrs. Bankus raised champion Kerry Blue Terriers and had won many competitions throughout the world. Her other hobbies included entertaining and when younger was an accomplished diver.
She was the devoted mother of Paula Bankus of Palmer and was the dear sister of Edwin B. Kava and his wife Josephine of Brockton and the late Stanley Kava and Melania Kizelewicz. She was the loving aunt of Linda Kava of Brockton, Frances Kava of Long Beach, California, Caroline Kava of Brockton, Josephine “Jodi” Reese of Norton, Lynne Kava-Griffin of Miami, Florida and Stanley “Randy” Kava of Fairfax, Virginia, and is also survived by several grand nieces and nephews and one great grand nephew.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday June 11th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday July 9th at 12:00 P.M. at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, Vermont.
In lieu of flowers, Charlotte’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to Hospice of the Community Visiting Nurse Agency, Inc. 10 Emory St. Attleboro, MA 02703.
