James Dewey Shepherd, 70, of Rockingham, died Friday, June 4, 2010 in Sandhills Regional Medical Center in Hamlet.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, June 9, in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry Mims officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
James was born in Richmond County on April 7, 1940 a son of the late Dewey and Delvinie Yates Shepherd. He served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict and Retired from CSX railroad. He was a lifelong member of AMVETS Post #316, and was a contrinutor of the American Red Cross.
He is survived by a son, Todd Shepherd and wife Chris of Rockingham; a daughter, Tammy Strain and husband Ray of Fuquay-Varina; two brothers, Lacy Shepherd and wife Joanne, Elbert Shepherd and wife Mary all of Rockingham; five sisters, Susie Greene and husband Arthur of Ellerbe, Patsy Parker and husband Polly of Lake Waccammaw, Rachael McIntyre of Rockingham, Mary Lou Nunn and husband Orian of Rockingham, Loretta Poole of Smithfield, AL; and five grandchildren, Dustin, Jeremy, and Kayla Strain, and Morgan and Lance Shepherd.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-9:00 PM at Russell-Marks Funeral Home and at other times at 253 Cartledge Creek Rd., Rockingham.
