Laconia------Catherine M. Betka, 99, of 406 Court Street died at the St. Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Thursday, June 3, 2010. Mrs. Betka was the widow of Frank Betka.
Mrs. Betka was born February 10, 1911 in New Jersey, the daughter of Andrew and Anne (Szwed) Pienciak. She was a longtime resident of New Jersey and in her youth, she was a member of her church’s choir. She later moved to Center Sandwich, N.H. where she lived for three years. For the past eighteen years, she had lived in Laconia.
Mrs. Betka was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lakes Church, Lakeport. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ and shared that love with others.
Mrs. Betka was a faithful wife and devoted mother. She was a gifted seamstress, an avid knitter and crocheter and was a wonderful “ old world” cook .
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John C. and Cindy Betka; a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and John Canfield; ten grandchildren, Kathryn, John, Matthew, Christopher, Thomas, Joseph, Michael, Elizabeth, Jennifer and Jessica; several great grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth DeLotto; three nieces and one nephew. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Betka was predeceased by her brother, Albert Pienciak, and by her beloved sister, Sophie Zawistowski, and by an infant sister, Amelia Pienciak.
There will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be con-celebrated on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 1:00PM at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia, N.H. by Rev. Marc Drouin, Pastor of the Church, and Rev. Matthew Mason, Assoicate Pastor of the Church.
Burial will be in the family lot in St. Lambert Cemetery, Laconia.
