Mrs. Bernice E. MacFarlane, age 76, died Tuesday June 2, 2010 in Burlington at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center, after a very brief illness. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Bernice has been a Woburn resident for the last 26 years, formerly of Chelmsford & Billerica. She was the loving daughter of the late Ann (Hest) & John Capstick.
Bernice and her loving husband Douglas have been married for the last 47 years. She was a registered nurse and worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital of Bedford for 28 years. She retired as a head nurse a few years back.
Bernice attended Glace Bay, Nova Scotia schools and graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia with her nursing degree. Shortly thereafter she moved to the United States to pursue her nursing career.
Bernice traveled frequently through the years back to Glace Bay to visit her loving family. She loved to dance, enjoyed crossword puzzles and the game show Jeopardy. Most of all she loved being "Grammi" to her 4 loving grandchildren, Jillian, John, Samantha & Connor.
In addition to her beloved husband Douglas MacFarlane and loving grandchildren, Bernice is survived by her devoted sons Paul MacFarlane and his wife Lisa of Medford, and Jerry MacFarlane and his wife LuAnn of Woburn. Sister of Helen Capstick, Frank Capstick, Anne Currie all of Nova Scotia, and the late Charles Capstick, Mary Fligg, Fr. John Capstick, Gerald Capstick and Peter Capstick. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Monday, June 7, 2010 at 9 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Barbara Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 3 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
