Obituary

John J. “Doc” Livingstone of Middleboro passed away peacefully at home May 31st, surrounded by his loving, supportive family after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Martha and John Livingstone. John was born on July 27, 1930 in Somerville, grew up in Dorchester, graduated from Dorchester High School and served 4 years in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. John lived for many years in Milton, Quincy and Halifax before moving in August of 2000 to Oak Point in Middleboro.

John is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Gail (Maloney-Peterson); his son John “Jack” and his wife Rita of Melrose; his daughters: Ann Marie Dorsey and her husband Robert of Milton, Jane Ricardi and her husband Philip of Kingston and Lisa Veronneau and her husband Mark of Staffordsville, KY. He is also survived by his brothers: Stanley of Quincy, Francis of West Yarmouth and David of Hyde Park. He was the brother of the late Paul Livingstone. He was the former husband of the late Marie (Clark) Livingstone.

John is also survived by his grandchildren: Michael and Kate Dorsey; Marissa Paine; Brian, Chris, Daunielle and Alisha Ricardi; Adelle and Julia Veronneau and his great-grandson Maxson John, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

John was employed by Standard Oil Refinery (later Esso) in the 1950’s. He worked in Branch Administration at South Shore National Bank in the 1960’s. John joined the New England Bankcard Association in 1971 as Vice President of Security. NEBA was a pioneer of the credit card concept called MasterCharge (later Mastercard). He rejoined South Shore Bank in the 1980’s from where he retired in 1993.

John was a past member of the McKeon Post in Dorchester and the Kiwanis Club of Quincy. He volunteered at the New England Aquarium and was an avid saltwater sport fisherman, traveling to Costa Rica, Panama, Belize and the British Virgin Islands. John participated in pool, bocce and weekly card games at Oak Point. John was a passionate gardener, enjoyed golf and watching the New England Patriots, Bruins and Red Sox. He and Gail enjoyed traveling, especially cruises to many ports of call.

A funeral service will be held at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St (Rt 3A), N. Plymouth on Monday, June 7th at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Sunday, June 6th from 3 to 7 PM. Burial will take place at the National Cemetery in Bourne after the funeral at 1 PM.
