Obituary

Beverly (Mackintosh) Riley, 78, of Franklin, passed away peacefully at home, after a lengthy illness, on May 30, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur F. Riley Jr. for 48 years.

Bev was born at home in Franklin on May 19, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Adam and Grace (Couthill) Mackintosh. She lived in Franklin for most of her life.

She was educated in the Franklin School system and graduated in 1950. While raising 4 children she graduated from Boston University School of Education in 1971 with a degree in secondary education. She loved teaching children and taught the fourth grade at the Davis Thayer School for 23 years. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the Retired State, County, and Municipal Employee Associations.

Bev and her husband were avid campers and travelled across the country twice in their motor home. Their favorite place for summertime was Camping on the Battenkill in Arlington, Vermont. She loved knitting, playing cards, reading books, jigsaw puzzles, crossword books, traveling, and attending Broadway plays. She learned to fly, and soloed in a Citabria after her husband became a small aircraft pilot. Bev was a Girl Scout leader for several years. She also helped chaperone her son’s Boy Scout Troop on their trip to Florida to watch Apollo 15 lift off to the moon in July of 1971.

She is survived by her loving children Cynthia J. Riley and James Precourt of Attleboro, Gregory A. Riley and his wife Rosina of Franklin, Donna L. Trenchard and her husband Robert of Cornwall Ontario, Canada, and Joyce E. Campbell and her husband Mark, of Franklin. She also leaves a sister, Jean Miller and her husband Kenneth, and a brother Donald Mackintosh and his wife Dona all of Franklin; 6 grandchildren, Wayne and Deirdre Trenchard, Krystle Ficco, Andrea Picot, Pamela Hanlon and Christine Yanni; 5 great grandchildren, Gwyneth Trenchard, Michael Picot, Shaelyn and Colby Hanlon, and Mia Yanni; and several extended family members and dear friends.
A celebration of her life will begin with calling in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin 131 Main St. in Franklin on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bev's memory may be made to the VNA and Hospice Services at 37 Birch Street, Milford, MA 01757.
