Helen G. Reardon
...retired Tewksbury teacher; 96
TEWKSBURY - Helen G. (Scales) Reardon, age 96, retired teacher, died May 29, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert J. Reardon Sr., with whom she shared 59 years of marriage.
She was the mother of Albert J. Reardon Jr. of Tewksbury, and Mildred Ann Reardon, M.D. of Williston, VT, and "Mom R" to Sarah Beers and Patricia Connelly also of Williston, VT.
She was the daughter of the late Mildred M. (Powell) and John Thomas Scales, and one of eight children, including Mary Ellen Doherty, Francis Scales, Catherine Chandler, John T. Scales, Sr. Mary George O.P., Leo Scales, and George P. Scales, all deceased.
Mrs. Reardon graduated from Boston Teachers College, taught first grade at the former Shawsheen (Trahan-Davy) School for twenty four years. She especially enjoyed her years of teaching. Many former students and their parents kept in touch after her retirement. Prior to teaching she was the director of Playgrounds and Girls Clubs for the Somerville Recreation Commission. She was a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association, and the Massachusetts State Employees and Teachers Association. She was also a member of the parish of the Church of St. William, the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality, and the Tewksbury Golden Age Club. She and her late husband enjoyed travel and spending summertime in their log cabin vacation home in Vermont.
She leaves five grandchildren, Sharon Marcil of TN, Susan Palmer of VA, Barbara Reardon of ME, Colleen Labbe of Worcester, Albert J. Reardon III of Lowell, twenty great grandchildren, one great great grandson, and many nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, June 2, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burial followed at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the Oblate Father's Infirmary Fund, 486 Chandler St., Tewksbury, MA 01876, will be appreciated.
