Obituary

Peter C. Salta, 82, of 35 Leigh Ct. died November 1, 2003 at his home following a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Laconia, he was born here on June 15, 1921, the son of Christ and Cleo (Chikaris) Salta.

He was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Laconia High School and went on to receive a degree from Bentley College. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Mr. Salta was the founder of Salta Tire Co. Inc. in 1967. He owned and operated the company these many years and served as Vice President at the time of his death.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and was a Life member of the Laconia Lodge of Elks #876, the American Legion Wilkins-Smith Post #1 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1670 in Laconia.

He was an avid golfer and excelled at both candlepin and ten-pin bowling and at one time was the City Champion Candlepin Bowler.

Family members include his wife, Shirley (McGrath) Salta of Laconia; two daughters, Nanci McDonough and her husband Brian of Manchester, and SueAnn Ippolito and her husband Chip of Laconia; a son, William P. Salta and his wife Cindy of Laconia; nine grandchildren, Alex Ippolito, Christopher Ippolito, Meg Salta, Samantha Ippolito, Kyle Ippolito, Will Salta, Tyler McDonough, James Salta and Andrew Salta; a sister, Constance St. Clair of Laconia; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were in the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St. on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 30 Church St. on Wednesday at 10 AM. Rev. Gary J. Kosmowski, Pastor was the celebrant. Burial followed in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
