Obituary

BOSTON — Mildred A. Cardoza, age 93 years, of Dartmouth, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Mass. General Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late William B. Cardoza.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Edwin and Mary (Kennedy) Church, she was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth.

Mrs. Cardoza was formerly employed at OV Dress Sportswear as a stitcher until her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary's Ladies Guild and Local 361 Retiree Group.

The matriarch of her family, she enjoyed knitting hats for newborn babies and doing word searches, and loved talking on the telephone with her nephew, nieces and friends. Mildred enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who called her Gramma "Dozie."

She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie A. Bourgeois and her son-in-law, Bruce Monte; her grandchildren, Susan Chace, William Monte, Michelle Woodacre, Laurie Correia and Josh Bourgeois; and her great-grandchildren, Brian, Nathan, Alyssa, Sean, Kaylee, Nicole, Matthew and Junior.

She was the mother of the late Janice Monte and the mother-in-law of the late Roger J. Bourgeois. She was the sister of the late Clarence, Edwin and Ervin Church and Helen Linhares.

Visitation will be on Monday from 4-7 p.m., at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford. Her funeral will be on Tuesday from the funeral home at 10 A.M., followed by a Mass at St. Mary's Church, Dartmouth at 11 A.M., with burial in Rural Cemetery
