Norman J. Girouard 77 of Brockton died Friday May 28, 2010, at West Acres Nursing Home after a period of failing health. He was the loving husband for 56 years of Jeannette L. (Casey) Girouard. Norman was born and raised in Gardner, MA, a son of the late Jules and Tyyne (Koivu) Girouard, and was a graduate of Gardner High School (’51) and Worcester Trade School. For over forty years he had been a resident of Brockton.
During the Korean Conflict Norman served in the US Navy. Following his discharge he began his life career as a machinist and retired as a production supervisor after over 25 years at Instron Corp. in Canton.
Norman was a longtime member of VFW Post 1046 in Brockton. He enjoyed travel and time spent with his family. He was an avid Boston sports fan and a voracious reader of history and nonfiction. Norman was a longtime communicant of Christ the King/St. Colman Parish.
In addition to his wife Jeannette, he leaves four sons James Girouard of Quincy; John Girouard and his wife June of Mansfield; Joseph Girouard of Falls Church, VA; and Jack Girouard of Brockton. He was the grandfather of Edward Girouard, great grandfather of Jacob Girouard, brother of Timothy Girouard of Gardner, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123) Brockton Wednesday at 9 am. Funeral Mass in Christ the King/St. Colman Parish at 10 am. Burial follows in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday 5-8 pm.
