Obituary

Mary Casimira Mikus, 83, of New Bedford died Friday May 28, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Anthony and Helen (Zych) Mikus, she lived in New Bedford all of her life. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.

Miss Mikus was formerly employed as a bookkeeper and secretary by Dartmouth Finishing Corporation for 40 years until her retirement in 1989.

Proud of her Polish heritage, she was Past President of the Polish Women's Business and Professional Club. She had been the organist and choir director of St. Hedwig Church for many years. She was the recipient of the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River in 1978. She also sang with the Stetsonaires Choral Group.

Mary loved music, travel, and doing crossword and picture puzzles.

Survivors include her dearest friends and traveling companions, Regina S. Polek and Andrea M. Polek of New Bedford; a nephew, Anthony S. Lis of Brookings, SD; two nieces, Judith Ann Lis of Norman, OK, and Sandra Jane Couch of Houston, TX; an aunt, Pelagia Fraczek of Rocky Hill, CT; and cousins, Bertha Holtwick, Alicia Cummings, Leonard Mikus, Susan Foster, Joanne Zych, and Stephen Fraczek.

She was the sister of the late Jane Ann Lis.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Visitation Wednesday 8:00-9:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
