Ella M. (Darrah) Berra, a 50 year resident of Peabody and formerly of Wakefield, died on Thursday, May 27, 2010, at The Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following an extended illness. She was 75 years old.
Ella was born in Melrose on November 7, 1934 to the late Eldridge and Elizabeth (Findlay) Darrah. She grew up in the Greenwood section of Wakefield where she attended Wakefield Public Schools and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1952. Ella was a homemaker most of her adult life. She enjoyed crocheting, playing the organ, doing crossword puzzles and watching an old black and white movie whenever possible. Most of all, Ella enjoyed her spare time with her children and grandchildren.
Ella is the beloved wife of 55 years to John E. Berra. She is the devoted mother of Susan Cottrell of St. Petersburg, Florida, Kathy Reddish and her husband Michael of Hanover, Debbie Welch and her husband Alan of Peabody, John E. Berra Jr. of Peabody and Jeannine M. Colella of Peabody. She is the loving Nana to Nicole, Jamie, Brittany, Mike, Tommy, John III, Brian, Brandon and Vanessa.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ella's Funeral on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main Street, Wakefield/Melrose line, followed by her Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main Street, Wakefield, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield. Visiting hours for Ella will be on Monday, May 31, 2010 from 2 - 5 p.m.
