Obituary

JOSEPH J. "POPS" DEVITO, 92, a lifelong resident of Hingham, passed away peacefully on May 26th, 2010 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth with his family and friends at his side. Joseph was born on May 16th, 1918 in Cohasset, the son of the late Angelo and Carmella (Olivadotti) DeVito.

Joseph enjoyed life to the fullest. His passion was spending time on the golf course and was still playing into his 90's. Joe could be seen every day at the South Shore Country Club walking the grounds.

During his early life he was a stone mason with Valentino & Sons, a family construction business. In later years he became a maintenance supervisor at General Dynamics in Quincy. During World War II, Joe served with distinction in the United States Army.

His three "girls" were the love of his life and are his wife of 64 years, Adele (Valentino) DeVito of Hingham; his only daughter, Linda A. Kennedy and her husband Kevin of Naples, FL; and his only granddaughter, Lisa K. Pesnichak and her husband John of Lorton, VA. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral Saturday, May 29th at 9 AM from the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond st., Hingham. Funeral Mass at St. Paul's Church, 147 North St., Hingham Square at 10 AM.

Friends may visit at the Downing Chapel on Friday from 4-8 PM. Interment with military honors in St. Paul's Cemetery, Hingham.
