Mrs. Verana (“Ann”) J. (Metzemaekers) Carroll, 91, a resident of North Andover, MA (formerly a resident of Lawrence, MA), died on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at the Prescott House Nursing Home in North Andover, MA.
Verana was born in Lawrence, MA on January 18, 1919 to Desire and Louise (Demuysere) Metzemaekers. She graduated from Lawrence High School Class of 1937 and Macintosh Business School in 1938. Verana served her country in the US Coast Guard during WWII. After raising her family of four children, she was a secretary for Royal Globe Insurance Company and the Internal Revenue Service and she worked as a teacher’s aid in the Lawrence School System. Verana was a longtime parishioner of St. Patrick’s Parish in Lawrence and a member of the St. Patrick's Women Sodality. Verana served as the leader of Girl Scout Troop 96 for many years and was very actively involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives by attending numerous sporting events, dance recitals and school activities. As an avid player of cards and board games, she was a patient teacher to her family and friends.
Verana was the wife of the late Vincent Augustine Carroll, Sr. and is survived by her daughters: Margaret L. Judson and her husband John of Hampton, NH, Nancy C. Robinson and her husband Richard of North Andover, MA; and her sons: Vincent A. Carroll, Jr. and his wife Debra of Winthrop, MA; Brian J. Carroll and his wife Nancy of Salem, NH. Verana leaves eight grand children: Phillip Valliere and his wife Kelly, Kara Phillips and her husband Eric, Brendan Carroll, Andrew Robinson, Jonathan Judson, Brian Carroll, Jr., K.C. Robinson, and Patrick Carroll; and three great grand children: Kevin Robinson, McKenzie Carroll and Skylar Ann Valliere.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 11:30AM At St. Michael's Church in North Andover, MA. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA. Following the burial, the family will be hosting a celebration of Verana’s life at Palmer’s Restaurant in Andover, MA.
