Clarence D. Smith, age 87, of Water Valley, MS died Monday, May 24, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. He was born September 2, 1922 in Coal Hill, AR to the late Callie J. and Dora Shepherd Smith, and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a sawmill operator for Riley Lumber Company and he also worked for Colonial Bread and C.W. White. Clarence was a member of First Christian Church. His family fondly remembers his love for gardening and working in the yard.
The funeral service will be held in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 with Bro. David Freeman presiding. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until the time of service. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley, MS.
He is survived by his three daughters, Carol Jane Posey, of Water Valley, Debbie Smith Babb and husband Kenny, of Oxford, MS, and Sherry Smith Riley of Saraland, AL; one sister, Hazel Kinkennon of Water Valley; one brother, Callie James Smith of Water Valley; three grandchildren, Timothy Lee Posey and wife, Jessie of Lebanon, MO, Keith David Posey and wife, Angie of Phillipsburg, MO, and Tabatha Edwards Jackson and husband, Brad of Oxford, MS; and four great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Melmer Lavern Smith; one sister, Aline Collins, and two brothers, Clinton Smith and Clifford Smith.
