Obituary

OXFORD – Victor Francis “Sonny” Barrett, 73, of Liberty Lane, passed May 24, 2010, in the Transitional Care Unit at Hubbard, Webster, surrounded by his family. His wife of 41 years, Carolyn L. (Rose) Barrett, passed in 2001.

He leaves 5 children, Robert A. Barrett of Deltona, FL, Karen B. Bemis and her fiancé Guy Trudeau of Southbridge, Scott F. Barrett of Idaho, Kim A. Barrett of North Brookfield and Lisa M. Whittemore and her husband William of Taunton; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a brother, Raymond Barrett of Oxford; a sister, Florence Wentworth of Worcester; a good friend, Lena Thienel of Oxford; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a grandson Jimmy Whittemore and by a sister Janet Lavallee.

He was born and raised in Worcester, the son of George and Evelyn (Lauzier) Barrett. He lived in Oxford for before moving to Florida in 1987. He returned to Oxford in 1999.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Air Force.

Mr. Barrett worked at the Norton Company in Worcester as a grinder. He then was a security guard at Lake Helen Hospital in Florida before retiring in 1999.

He enjoyed woodworking and camping.

Calling hours will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 27, in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster. A service will be held at 7:00 PM during the calling hours. Donations in his name may be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22313.
