Luigi S. “Gino” Cugno, of Billerica, formerly of Medford, died Saturday night surrounded by his loving family at the Kaplan Family Hospice, Danvers. He was 76.
Gino was born in Sicily, the son of the late Michele and the late Sebastiana (Caraco) Cugno. Gino came to the United States as a young man and served in the Air Force during the end of the Korean War and the beginning of Vietnam. After his discharge, he settled in Medford and began his travel business in South Medford, United Travel. He operated the business for 30 years, until he retired. He was a Member of the Sons of Italy and the Medford Lodge of Elks. A Billerica resident since 1986, Gino produced and hosted a popular cooking show on BATV. His generous spirit and jovial personality made him a fan favorite among viewers.
The beloved husband of Sebastiana “Nella” (Motta), he is survived by his children: Michael and his wife AnnMarie of Medford, Daniel and his wife Teresa of Billerica, Louis and his wife Gretchen of England and Virginia. Gino also leaves his grandchildren: Michael, Marcello, Massimo, Matteo, Matteo, Cristian, Marco, Vincent, Olivia and Sophia. He was a dear brother to Paul Cugno and his wife Franca of RI and the brother-in-law of Joseph Motta and his wife Giaconda of Woburn, Dr. Mario Motta and his wife Joyce of Gloucester. Many nieces and nephews also survive him.
Gino’s funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Wednesday May, 26th at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 - 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
