Obituary

Wallace Washington Barber, Sr., 69, of Omega died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Carpenter Road Church of God. Bishop Ray Garner, Bishop Charles Blair and Bishop Nathan Greer will officiate with burial to follow in Leila Methodist Church Cemetery in Omega. Mike Davis, Donnie Purvis, Dale Horne, David Barber, Richard Clark, and Daniel Knight will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Doyle Sumner and William T. “Billy” Danforth. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 24, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Barber was born on December 18, 1940 in Tallahassee, Florida and was the son of Wright W. Barber and Ellis Wade Barber, both deceased. He was retired from the Omega Peanut Mill and a member of Omega Church of God.

Mr. Barber is survived by his wife, Gladys Jenkins Barber of Omega; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wallace W. Jr. and Mary Barber of Hinesville, and Jason A. and Wendy Barber of Omega; two daughters and one son-in-law, Margaret B. Greiner of Omega and Deborah B. and Walt Kelley of Adel; one brother, Wiley Eugene Barber of Tifton; two sisters, Shirley Davis of Bruce, Florida and Alice Fay Purinton of Tifton; eleven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
