Virginia M. (Finlay) Day, of Winchester, May 21, 2010. Beloved wife of the late Wayne D. Day. Loving mother of Wayne D. Day, Jr. of Bolton and Julie Day Marion of Rowayton, CT. Dear sister of David Finlay of Braintree and the late Lauretta Martin and Lorraine Hurley. Also survived by four grandchildren: Connor and Celia Marion and Toni and Josie Day.
Well-educated herself, Virginia was a life-long educator, holding numerous teaching and librarian positions in Iowa, California, and Massachusetts (Needham Public Schools and the Minuteman Vocational School). She loved traveling the world and was an avid bird watcher. A voracious reader, Virginia enjoyed participating in several book clubs, and regularly attended the theater, the symphony, and Boston's museums. A pianist and perpetual student, she pursued continuing education classes in topics which varied from music appreciation and theory to the works of such authors as James Joyce. Virginia adored her grandchildren and spent as much time with them as possible.
A Memorial Visitation will be held in the Costello Funeral Home on Fri., May 28, from 5-8 PM. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Sat., May 29 at 9AM followed by a Memorial Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester at 10AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment West Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Mass Audubon Society c/o Development Office, 208 South Great Rd., Lincoln, MA 01773.
