BEVERLY: Lawrence A. “Larry” Dolph, 86, died Thursday, May 20, 2010 in the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Patricia A. (Connell) Dolph.
Born in Watertown on August 29, 1923, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Janet (McInnis) Dolph. Larry played hockey for Natick High School and graduated in 1942. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he received the Award of Air Medal for meritorious acts in aerial flight during a battle off the Philippine Islands on October 25, 1944. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He resided in Wellesley for many years before moving to Beverly in 1991. He was also a forty-five year summer resident of Conomo Point in Essex.
Larry was employed as an office manager for Terminal Freight / Sears in Boston for thirty-six years before retiring in 1991. He was an avid reader, enjoyed golfing and was a former member of Nehoiden Golf Course in Wellesley and the Cape Ann Golf Course in Essex.
In addition to his wife of sixty-one years, he is survived by six children, James, husband of Linda Dolph of Albany, NY, Michael Dolph of Beverly, Mary Jane, wife of Peter Given of Ridgefield, CT, Anthony, husband of Mary Dolph of Pepperell, Patricia, wife of Michael Fallon of Hamilton and Sarah, wife of James Mahan of Holden, twelve beloved grandchildren, Caitlyn, Alex, Janice, Julia, Anastasia, Daniel, Alexandria, Christina, Caroline, Nicholas, Thomas and Cecilia and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Savannah. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday in the St. John the Baptist Church, 52 Main Street, Essex at 10 A.M. Visiting hours will be held on Monday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 5 -8 P.M. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Donations may be made in his memory to Albany Plasticare International, c/o Dr. James Dolph, 15 Ross Ct., Loudonville, NY 12211. Interment will be held in the Spring Street Cemetery, Essex.
