Methuen: Michael D. Benevento, age 56 of Methuen and formerly of Marblehead, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen. He was the husband of Mary Elizabeth ‘Beth’ (Walsh) Benevento, with whom he shared 30 years of marriage.
Born in Saugus and raised in Swampscott and Lynn, he was the son of the late Carlo Benevento and Phyllis J. (Bishop) Benevento Furey. A graduate of Lynn English High School, he has worked as a department manager for several retail chain stores, including Child World, Bradlees, Caldor, J.C. Penney and was currently employed by Kohl’s. Michael’s passion was for his wife, daughter and his extended family. As a high school student he played hockey, and throughout his life was a devoted sports fan. Michael’s second passion was truck driving and for a brief period drove for Keystone. Residents of Marblehead for many years, Michael and Beth moved to Methuen from Marblehead 2 years ago.
In addition to his wife Beth, he is survived by their daughter Toni Lee Benevento of Marblehead, 2 brothers, Anthony F. Benevento & his wife Susan of Swampscott, Charles Benevento & his wife Kathy of N. Hampton, NH, 4 sisters, Jennie Spinney & Her husband Lee of N. Scituate, RI, Mary Grimmer & her husband Manfred of Reading, Ann McCoy & her husband Stephen of Hingham, Theresa Buonopane & her husband Michael of N. Andover. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem, MA on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 7:45 a.m. to be followed by his funeral mass in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Atlantic Ave., Marblehead at 9 a.m. Visiting hours: Thursday 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
