Philip J. Connor of Wellesley May 19, 2010. Beloved husband and best friend for 52 years of Nancye (VanDeusen) Connor. Mr. Connor was 78 years of age.
Mr. Connor grew up in Newton, MA, and graduated in 1950 from Newton High School. He later received his BA from Boston University in 1954.
After serving in the Marine Corps Reserve from 1952 to 1954, he went on active duty, stationed in the Pacific, on Okinawa; he was a Company Commander with the Ninth Marines, Third Marine Division.
In 1957 Mr. Connor joined Computer Control Company as Personnel Manager. After the company was acquired by Honeywell Inc. in 1966, he became Director, Human Resources for the International Group. In his last ten years with Honeywell before taking early retirement at age 57, he was Director of Public Affairs. In this position he managed all government and community relations programs for Honeywell’s Massachusetts Operations. After retirement, Mr. Connor then joined the firm of Robert Lakin, Inc. as a Corporate Relocation Consultant until his death.
Serving in a number of community organizations, Mr. Connor was an overseer with the Museum of Science in Boston, a Trustee with the Charles River Museum of Industry, Executive VP of the Norumbega Council, B.S.A., and a Board Member of the Mass Bay American Red Cross.
He was an avid golfer and a member of Nehoiden Golf Club in Wellesley. He was also a classic car enthusiast involved in the Mustang Club of MA.
He is survived by daughters Deborah of Wayland, Tracey Young, Julie Morris and her husband Brian, all of Wellesley, and son Stephen of Deland, FL, as well as 7 grandchildren, Renee, Amanda, Emily, Sarah, Meghan, Robert and Sean. He also leaves his brother Robert, of Saratoga Springs, NY, and two sisters, Mary Kain of Hopewell, VA, and Ann Massard of Wellesley.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 22 at 1:00 pm at St. James the Great Parish, at 900 Worcester St. in Wellesley. Visiting hours will be Friday, May 21 from 4 - 8 pm at George F. Doherty Funeral Home at 477 Washington St., Wellesley. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley.
