METHUEN- John J. McCarthy, Jr., 70, also known to his family and friends as "Lefty" or "Monk", passed away peacefully at his home with his sister by his side on Friday morning, May 14, 2010.
John was born February 27, 1940 in Lawrence, MA. and educated in the local schools. John worked for United Liquors-Teamsters Union, and retired after 25 years of service. Before John got ill, he loved to travel and dine out. He could never pass up a hot dog especially from Lawton's in Lawrence. He frequently enjoyed seeing his friends at the local pubs and playing cards. His dry sense of humor and willingness to help family and friends will be greatly missed.
The son of the late Polly E. Jeziorski and John J. "Varker" McCarthy, Sr., John is survived by:
his sister: Sharon L. Greco of Haverhill, MA.
an uncle: Raymond Chevalier of San Diego, CA.
cousins: Brenda Anderson and her husband George of Bakersfield, CA., Frank Boumila of Las Vegas, NV., John Boumila of San Diego, CA., Carol Walker of Monson, MA., Henry Stram of Boston, MA., as well as several nieces and nephews.
John is also survived by many special friends among whom are Jeanne Juliano of Haverhill, MA., and William Heimlich of Bradford, MA.
John's sister would like to extend her gratitude and appreciation to all the dedicated staff and people that took wonderful care of him over the past few months and years.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Lawrence, MA. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, also in Lawrence. Family and friends may call on Thursday, May 20, 2010 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence, MA.
