Obituary

THOMPSON, CT - Brian D. Bates, 52, of Stawicki Road, died Tuesday, May 11, in Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston, surrounded by his loving family.

He leaves his wonderful wife of 29 years, Cynthia L. (Celko) Bates; three children, Christie L. Bates and her fiancé John J. Motyka, Jr., Lindsey C. Bates and Tyler S. Bates, all of Thompson; his mother, Lorraine C. (Douglass) Bates of Webster; nephews and nieces.

He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Roland L. Bates. He lived in Dudley from 1965 and graduated from Shepherd Hill Regional High School in 1975. He lived in Webster for 6 years before moving to Thompson in 1985.

Mr. Bates was a quarry blaster for Austin Powder in Sterling, CT. He then owned and operated Bates Transport for 7 years. He worked for Rampco Constuction, Inc. in Dudley for last 7 years.

He loved spending time in his garage, working on his various projects: a ‘64 BeeLine camper, cars and trucks, stone art and wood creations. He enjoyed long rides on country roads, attending blues festivals, canoeing ,camping and fishing with family and friends. He also liked attending swap meets and car shows.

More than anything else, he cherished his family.

Memorial calling hours will be held on Saturday, May 29, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM in the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster. Donations in his name may be made to the Lung Cancer Alliance in Memory of Brian D. Bates, PO Box 630972, Baltimore, MD 21263-0972.
