Donald E. Lajoie, 80, of New Bedford died May 16, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital.
He was the husband of the late Rita C. (Krouzek) Lajoie.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Amie A. Lajoie and Jeanne B. (Lebrun) Lajoie-Hodgins and the step-son of the late Peter Hodgins, he lived in New Bedford and Dartmouth most of his life.
Mr. Lajoie was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in New Bedford.
He was formerly employed as an electrician with the I.B.E.W. Local 223-224 for many years until retirement.
Mr. Lajoie served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Survivors include 5 children, Scott Lajoie and his companion Wendy Ponte of Westport; David Lajoie and his wife Mary, James Lajoie and his wife Robin, Linda Garnett and her husband Bruce and Karen Bernier and her husband Daniel, all of New Bedford; a brother, Paul Lajoie and his wife Linda of Longmeadow, MA; 4 sisters, Lorraine Lajoie of Hyannis, Pauline Moniz and her husband Frank of Dartmouth and Jeannine Buckles and her husband James of Wareham, Yvette Koontz and her husband Robert of Bethera, SC; 5 grandchildren, Heather Estrela, Janelle Imbeau, Amy Robinson, Erik Lajoie and Keith Lajoie; 2 great-grandchildren, Madison Estrela and Scott Lajoie; his good friend Richard Bumpus of San Francisco, CA.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church New Bedford at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday from 5-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
