Robert J. Burns of Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of Winchester, passed away suddenly April 17th, from complications of asthma. Born in Cambridge, he was the loving son of James R. Burns of Dover, NH and the late Teresa A. (Hogan). Bob was a graduate of Winchester High, UMass Amherst and held a Master of Science Degree from Boston University. An avid swimmer, he was a swimming instructor at the Winchester Boat Club and a former member of the Winchester High School swimming team. At UMass, he was a ski instructor and swim coach. His area of expertise was interior landscaping and tropical plants. After managing a branch office for an interior landscaping corporation in San Francisco, he became national account manager for Initial Plant Design Corp. in the Phoenix area. Bob's various accounts nationwide included the Cheesecake Factory and Nordstrom’s Dept. Stores. He was the dear brother of David J. Burns and his wife Patricia of North Hampton, NH, James J. Burns and his wife Dawn of Gardner, Teresa M. Burns of Chicago and Joseph F. Burns and his wife Karen of Lowell. A Memorial Visitation will be held in the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Mon., May 17th from 6-8PM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment is private.
