Harold W. Barton, 90, of New Bedford died Tuesday October 28, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Grace M. (Barrett) Barton.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Richard and Mary Ann (Laverty) Barton, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.
Mr. Barton was formerly employed as a police officer for the New Bedford Police Department for 20 years until his retirement. He later owned and operated Vacation Trailer Sales in Fairhaven. Many years ago he was associated with the food concessions at Sargent Field and Brooklawn Park.
Mr. Barton was a 1931 graduate of New Bedford High School. He was an avid Red Sox fan. He travelled extensively throughout this country and Europe.
Survivors include his wife; his daughter-in-law, Nancy A. (McLaughlin) Barton; 5 grandchildren, Christopher J. Barton, Debra A. Barton, Scott J. Barton, Patrick Barton, and Deidre A. Barton; 4 great-grandchildren, Quincy Barton, Grant Barton, Tyler Barton, and Jonathan Barton; and a niece, Carol Jerome.He was the father of the late Russell D. Barton and David M. Barton, and brother of the late Edward Barton, William Barton, and Mildred Megna.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Friday October 31, 2003 at 10:30 AM.Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church at 11:30 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday October 30, 2003 from 2-5 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
