Lamar Q. Goodman, 86, of Coffee County died Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Carl Vinson Veterans Hospital in Dublin after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 14 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald with Rev. Sandra Conley officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 to 9:00 Thursday evening.
Mr. Goodman was born March 14, 1924 in Broxton to the late Robert T. and Idell McCallum Goodman. He learned welding at the H.G. Smith Welding School in Illinois. Mr. Goodman was a retired welder, having worked for Goodman Welding & Repair and operated Goodman’s Welding in Abbeville. He was a World War II veteran serving in the 3rd Infantry Regiment in Central Europe where he received a Bronze medal, WWII Victory medal, Good Conduct medal and an Occupational ribbon. Mr. Goodman was an avid fisherman and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Goodman is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law: Larry & Missy Goodman of Nahunta, Billy & Roxie of Fitzgerald, Allen Goodman and Lamar, Jr. & Darlene Goodman, all of Albany and John & Laura Goodman of Fitzgerald and Steve & Alice of Wray; grandchildren: Tracie, Terry, Larry, Johnny Ray, Anthony, B.J., Shannon, Misty, Tabitha, A.J., Timothy, Kristen, Jonathan, Walker, and Daniel; sister: Maxine Andrews of Broxton. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, E.L., James and Bobby and sisters, May and Ethel.
