WEBSTER – Paul E. Mason, 88, formerly of Dudley, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2010. His wife of 47 years, Alice B. (Grzyb) Mason, died in 1995.
He leaves Victoria G. (Wiggin) Mason; 2 sons, Paul M. Mason and his wife Virginia of Oxford, and Gerald Mason of Webster; a daughter, Linda A. Holmgren and her husband Robert of Dayville, CT; 2 granddaughters, Michelle Mason and Melissa Barrett; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his four brothers, Earl H. Mason, James W. Mason, Sr., Edward T. Mason and John H. Mason.
He was born in Dudley, the oldest son of Edward C. and Catherine L. (Duffy) Mason. He graduated from Saint Louis High School and attended New England School of Accounting.
He was a Navy Seabee veteran of World War II. He served in the South Pacific and was awarded two battle stars.
Mr. Mason owned and operated the Mason Insurance Agency in Dudley for many years before he retired in 1998.
He was a communicant of St. Louis Church. He was a member and past grand knight of the Webster-Dudley Knights of Columbus Council # 228. He belonged to the Cardinal Wright Assembly in Worcester as a 4th degree knight and had served as Faithful Navigator. He was a member and past commander of the Webster-Dudley American Legion Post #184; he was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #654. He was active in the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council for many years.
He played the violin when he was a young man. In his retirement years, he took organ lessons when wintering in Florida.
The funeral will be held Friday, May 14, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will provide military honors after the Mass. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
