Obituary

Gino Maganzini, a long-time Medford businessman, died Saturday at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He was 78.

Mr. Maganzini was born in Giustino, a small town in the Italian Alps, the son of the late Valentino and the late Costanza (Antoniolli) Maganzini. At age 15, along with his family, he came to the United States and settled in Medford. After graduating from Medford High, Gino joined his father who had brought his knife grinding trade from Italy to start a business in Boston with a simple pushcart. Through hard and honest work the family built that business, General Grinding, now GSI, into the largest grinding company on the east coast. Gino was a devoted family man who loved a good time and enjoyed dancing. Having been raised in the mountains, Gino loved the outdoors, enjoyed skiing and spending time with family and friends at his lake house in Ossippee, NH. Gino was a long-time member of the Medford Kiwanis Club. He also served as president of the Trentino Club of New England, a civic organization for families whose origins are in the Italian Alps.

He is survived by his beloved wife Eugenia (Mase’) Maganzini. He also leaves his children: Stephen and his wife Grace of Wolfboro, NH, Daniel and his wife Suzanne of Somerville, Paul and his wife Joyce of Wakefield, Lawrence and his wife Lucinda of Stoneham, Eugene and his wife Robin of Reading, Vincent and his wife Sara of Medford, Valentino of Medford, Gregory and his wife Allison of Reading, Carla Centola and her husband Anthony of Framingham. Gino was a loving grandfather of 18 grandchildren. He was a dear brother to Julie Durso, Alice MacNeil, Valentina Curran, Walter and Benjamin Maganzini.
