Catherine M. Semensi, 41, passed away at home in Medford on May 9th, 2010. She was born in Stoneham on June 8th, 1968 to her parents Ralph and Mary (Merigo) Semensi. Catherine was raised in Medford and has been a resident of Haverhill for the past 20 years. She was educated at the Lexington, Arlington and Bedford “LAB” School, graduating from Lexington High School, Class of 1990. Cathy was a volunteer worker for the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services. While she was living in Medford, she worked for many area businesses that employed people with developmental disabilities. Upon moving to Haverhill, she became involved in a Self Advocacy Group for people with developmental disabilities. Cathy has been honored by the Massachusetts State Senate, the Arc of Greater Haverhill-Newburyport, the Massachusetts House of Representatives, the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services and the Northeast Region Department of Mental Retardation for her tireless efforts in exemplifying the ideals of self determination and self advocacy. She has also been awarded several certificates of appreciation for her faith and service to Ruth’s House. Cathy enjoyed many activities with friends and family including bowling and dancing. She is survived by her parents, Ralph and Mary Semensi of Medford; by her siblings; Victor Semensi and his wife Sarah Swart of Gloucester, Janet Semensi of Leominster and Steven Semensi of Medford; and by her niece and nephew, Elizabeth and Michael Semensi. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Friday May 14th at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 10:30 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday May 13th from 4-8 PM.
