Jeremiah J. Cole
...retired from Raytheon; Korean War veteran; 75
LOWELL - Jeremiah J. "Jerry' Cole, age 75, a Navy Veteran, Golden Gloves Champion, and Raytheon retiree, died Monday morning, May 10, at his Belvidere home, surrounded by his beloved family, following a courageous two year battle with cancer. He was husband of Patricia A. "Pat" (Theriault) Cole, with whom he had celebrated a 52nd wedding anniversary this past June 29th.
He was born in Lowell, December 24th, 1934, one of nine children of the late Ernest and Evelyn (Nash) Cole. He lived all his life in Lowell, where he was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.
He was a Silver Mittens Champion in 1950, and crowned Golden Gloves Champion in 1951. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1952, and served sea duty aboard the USS R.A. Owens, and later the USS Jarvais before his honorable discharge in 1960.
He retired as an engineer from Raytheon company in Andover, where he had worked for over 35 years, and where he was a member and served as Shop Steward for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
He also coached in the Shedd Park youth baseball and football leagues.
Since retirement, he enjoyed vacationing, especially the Carribean Islands on bi-annual vacations.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeremiah J. "Jay" Cole Jr. and his wife Mary (Clancy) of Tyngsboro, Richard A. Cole and his wife Lisa (Flynn) of Lancaster, MA, Gary M. Cole and his wife Eileen (Locke) of Billerica; eleven beloved grandchildren, Ryan, Jennifer, Thomas, Joshua, and Andrew Cole all of Tyngsboro, Adam, Jake, and Ethan Cole all of Lancaster, Derek, Robert, and Brian Cole all of Billerica; two sisters, Margaret Leverone of Venice, FL, Dolores Wessinger of Eutawville, SC; a brother, John Cole of Hampton, NH; and many dearly beloved nieces and nephews.
He was also brother of the late Arthur and Ernest Cole, Mary Matthews, Geraldine Thurlow, and Theresa Kacavas.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, May 14, in the Immaculate Conception Church, Lowell. Burial with Navy Honors followed at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Lowell. Memorials to the Greater Lowell VNA, Hospice, P.O. 1965, Lowell, MA 01853 or St. Judes, Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN, 38101-9929 will be appreciated.
