Howard D. Cedarfield, 99

Howard D. Cedarfield, 99, of Pond Meadow in Wrentham formerly of Walpole and Norwood passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Monday May 10, 2010 at the Daggett-Crandall-Newcomb Home in Norton. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy L. (Boyden) Cedarfield.
Born in Norwood, MA on September 10, 1910 he was a dear son of the late Gustav Victor and Helga C. (Holmstrom) Cedarfelt.
Howie grew up in Norwood, was educated in Norwood public schools and was a 1928 graduate of Norwood High School. He furthered his studies by attending Bryant & Stratton College in Boston.
During WWII he proudly served his country in the United States Army in the European Theatre. He was the recipient of the several medals and on November 25, 1945 was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Prior to retiring in 1975 Mr. Cedarfield had worked as a Passenger & Freight Area Sales Representative for 46 years for the Santa Fe Railroad. He served as a past president of the Railroad & Steamboat Association in Boston.
A member of the Epiphany Episcopal Church in Walpole, he was also a life member of the American Legion Post 70 in Norwood.
Howie was an avid reader who enjoyed books pertaining to mysteries and while living in Wrentham was a familiar face at the Fiske Public Library. He was a die hard New England sports fan, his favorite teams being the Red Sox and Patriots. He loved dining out and had a sweet tooth for chocolates.
Mr. Cedarfield anticipated turning 100 in September and was proud of his ability to still drive at the age of 99. He had made his home in Wrentham for the past 10 years and was a former 36 year resident of Walpole. His family would like to thank the staff of the Daggett-Crandall Newcomb Home for all the love and kindness expressed to him.
Brother of the late Roland V. Cedarfield,Sr., he is survived by his nephew Ron Cedarfield and his wife Barbara of Mansfield, his niece Jan Boyden of Abington and is also survived by several grand nieces and nephews and 1 great grand niece.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday May 15th at 10:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main Street, Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Norwood.
Visitation will be held on Saturday morning prior to services beginning at 9:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers Howard’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Fiske Public Library Gift Account P.O. Box 340 Wrentham, MA 02093.
