Alexander J. Saitas, 81

Dateline: Taunton, MA

Alexander J. Saitas, 81, of Taunton formerly of Norwich, CT passed away on Saturday May 8, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the beloved husband of the late Anne V. (Nassetta) Saitas to whom he was wed for over 53 years at the time of her death on September 25, 2009.
Born in Putnam, Ct on January 29, 1929 he was a son of the late John and Efthalia (Siros) Saitas. He grew up in Putnam and was a 1946 graduate of Putnam High School.
Following high school, Alex furthered his education to become a 1948 graduate of Becker Junior College in Worcester, receiving his Associates Degree in Accounting. In 1952 he received his Bachelors Degree from Clark University, also in Worcester.
He proudly served his country from 1952-1955 in the United States Navy, stationed aboard the USS Yellowstone, during the Korean War, before being honorably discharged as an officer.
Prior to retiring he worked for 18 years as a self-employed Accountant and was formerly employed for 18 years as a Treasurer for the Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, CT and as the Director of Finance for the City of New London, CT for 5 years.
Alex was an avid traveler and also enjoyed reading, playing tennis, dining out and most of all spending time with his loving family. He had made his home in Taunton for the past 5 years.
He is survived by his devoted sons Stephen A. Saitas of New York City, NY, Michael P. Saitas of Riverside, RI, Andrew P. Saitas and his wife Carol of Plainville and the late Philip Saitas. He was the dear brother of James Saitas of Putnam, CT and is also survived by his loving grandsons Christopher Millin, Ryan Millin, Daniel Millin and the late Peter Millin. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday May 17th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
Private burial will take place in St. Francis Cemetery in Taunton. In lieu of flowers, Alexander’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans 17 Court St. Boston, MA 02108.
