Mary Louise Phelan, 95, of Acushnet died peacefully on May 9, 2010 at Our Lady's Haven in Fairhaven.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late James J. and Mary A. (Perry) Phelan, she lived in New Bedford for many years before moving to Acushnet.
Miss Phelan worked as a school teacher in the New Bedford Public School System for nearly 40 years until her retirement.
She was a communicant of both St. Francis Xavier Church in Acushnet as well as St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett.
A lover of the arts, Miss Phelan was herself a talented artist and continued to pursue her passions for painting and drawing well into her later years. Equally noteworthy was her love of the ocean and beach in Antassawamock, Mattapoisett where she summered for nearly 50 years.
She was the sister of the late Helen Considine, Frances McQuillan, Grace Osborne, Charles Phelan and James Phelan.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady's Haven, 71 Center Street, Fairhaven, MA, 02719.
Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 15th at 9 AM in St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett. Arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford.
