New Bedford – George H. Perry, Jr., 81, passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital on Thursday evening after a brief illness. He was married for 61 years to his loving wife Kathleen (Perry) Perry of New Bedford, formerly of Fall River.
Mr. Perry was born in New Bedford, son of the late George H., Sr. and Hilma (Vaughan) Perry, and resided in the greater New Bedford area all of his life. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the Navy on the USS Vulcan. He worked for Park Oil/Pyrofax Gas Co. of New Bedford, Lincoln Park Amusements of N. Dartmouth, Robertson’s Curtain Factory of Taunton, J.C. Rhodes Co. of New Bedford and JaySan Gas of Freetown before retiring. After his retirement he was an avid golfer and helped with a family business. Serving for many years as an assessor for the Town of Acushnet, he was also active on various other town committees. He was an active participant in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, New Bedford Chapter and was a former member of the Hawthorne Country Club.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his sons: Phillip and his partner Eric Hakansson of Haverhill, Brian and his wife Andrea (Travers) of Berkley; a sister: Muriel Turner of Acushnet; 2 grandsons: Nicholas Perry of Stamford, CT and Jason Perry of Berkley; and several nieces & nephews.
He was brother of the late Carl Perry, Donald Perry and Bernice daSilva.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, 5:00-7:30 P.M. at the Kirby Funeral Home followed immediately by funeral services at 7:30 P.M.
Interment will be private.
